Salt and Pepper With a Twist

First, scraps of maple burl, padauk, cocobola, zebrawood and lacewood were cut into 2" x 2" x 1/2" blanks and composed in a random pattern.

Next, holes were drilled in each square to fit the tolerances provided by the hardware manufacturer.

The stacking was practiced a couple of times to get a good feel for the rotation.

After a few dry runs, they were glued, restacked, and clamped.

Will provided the QA,QC for this project.

After the glue set, a dremel with a saber bit cut the rough shape.

Progressive grits of sand paper refined the forms

A few coats of Tung Oil finished them off.

They found a home on top of my bar.

The saber bit proved fairly hard to control. The sanding covered most of my mistakes, but this one at the top required a compound inlay to fix.
